How to Protect Yourself
Before hiring an immigration representative, take a few simple steps to protect yourself:
- Verify that the consultant is licensed and in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC).
- Ask for the consultant’s RCIC licence number and confirm it through the public register.
- Read your Retainer Agreement carefully before signing.
- Request written invoices and keep copies of all receipts and correspondence.
- Review your application before it is submitted and ensure you understand the information being provided on your behalf.
- Never sign blank forms or documents that have not been completed.
- Never provide false, misleading, or incomplete information, even if someone advises you to do so.
- Be cautious of anyone who guarantees visa approval or claims to have special connections with Canadian immigration authorities. No representative can guarantee the outcome of an immigration application.
